the ACTIVITIES BALI HIGHLIGHTS

Golf
Bedugul Golf,   a splendid site surrounded by tropic rain forests, at one hour's drive from Lovina.

Diving
In Lovina, there are several diving schools.

Traditional market
An early morning's visit to the traditional market in Singaradja is highly recommended.
It is a hectic, chaotic and colourful traditional market.
Besides meat, fish, vegetables and fruit , there are batiks, clothes and watches.

Gedong Kirtya
Singaraja has the historic library.
If you like scrolling through ancient books, you will most certainly enjoy the historic library.

Northern Bali
Pemuteran is a small fishing village that has a number of hotels by the beach.
It is the most western seaside resort at het northern coast of Bali. a small hour's drive from Gillimanuk. Gillimanuk is the harbour from where the ferries leave from Ketapang to Java.
The vineyards of Hatten are located in Singaraja. Hatten is the largest winegrower of Bali and the only national park at the same time (Bali Barat National Park).
The island Menjangan lies in front of the coast, a short distance by boat( 45 minutes). It is an excellent place to snorkel around, with its clear water and little current.
Another good location for snorkeling is Pemutaran's coast. At a short distance from Pemutaran is a shelter for sea turtles in an area where coral is rehabilitated, some hundred metres outside the coast. It is one of the largest coral rehabilitation areas worldwide.

Munduk
Munduk is situated in the mountains at less than an hour's drive. Clove and coffee is cultivated in this area that is breathtakingly beautiful. Still reasonable unexplored: The Munduk Waterfalls. Even more beautiful than The Gitgit Falls.

Culture
Bali has a lot of temples, each with their own significance. East of Lovina you will discover the Beji Temple in Sangsit, dedicated to the Rice Goddess. The battles against the Dutch are memorated in the Jagaraja temple.
The Pulati temple is West of Lovina, it is full of monkeys that are believed to be descendants of the God Dewa.

Pura Ulun Danau Bratan
This well-known and beautiful complex of temples is located at the edge of lake Bratan, a gorgeous lake in between several different mountains that are partly hidden in the clouds. Lake Bratan is very significant because it is used for irrigating the southern parts of Bali.

Pura Besakih-The mother temple
Pura Besakih is the largest and most sacred temple of the Balinese people. It is situated on the Gunung Agung slope and was built between the fourteenth and eighteenth century.
The sacred complex of temples can be found at the top of the mountain and can be reached by using a long flight of stairs. The temple consists of about 200 buildings, divided into 30 complexes, situated on a number of patios. You have to wear a sarong if you wish to visit the temple.. Sarongs can be rented or bought at the porch of the Pura Besakih. You are not allowed to wear revealing clothes when paying a visit to the Pura Besakih.

Water Palaces
The Tirtaganga and Taman Ujung are water palaces. During the government of the last king of East-Bali, the construction of two splendid water palaces was realized thanks to the king: Ujung and Tirtaganga. The Tirtaganga water palace has been constructed around a natural source with sacred water in it. Five basins, fountains and Hindu-culture sculptures make the garden look like an open air museum. Whether or not it is because of the water, the garden exhales an atmosphere of peace, with its extreme richness of trees and flowering plants. The eruption of the Gunung Agung in 1963 that was accompanied by earthquakes, caused a lot of damage to the water palaces, it nearly destroyed them altogether.
Both of the water palaces were fully restored recently.
For a small fee you are allowed to take a bath in the royal first water, a basin that used to be for the radja himself only. Then you will have the diving plateau on elegant little columns all to yourself. For an even smaller fee you may take a bath in the second water (crystal clear by the way).

One of the last ruling king's grandsons now exploits the gardens, just like the restaurant and one cottage for rent.
From Tirtaganga, which is small and quiet, you can go on outings to marvellous rice paddies and to temples and villages in Tirtaganga's surroundings.

Ubud
The cultural capital of Bali is Ubud. The town has a rich history when the Balinese art of painting is concerned. Several artisan villages are situated round Ubud, but many different traditional dance performances take place in Ubud itself. Ubud is a real paradise to all who are interested in wood carving, paintings, batik, bamboo items and Balinese works of art. A visit is highly recommendable.

Lovina
Lovina lies in the North of Bali, where nature is covered with sawas and overgrown in a magnificent way. Far from the big tourist centres, it is eight kilometres out of the old capital Singaraja.
Kalibukbuk is in the middle of Lovina. There is tourism, but it is not as much as in the busy South of Bali. Here in Lovina, you will discover the authentic Balinese life as it used to be for ages and ages. Because of the volcanic origin, the northern beaches have black sand just like our resort's beach.
In the early morning there is the possibility to sail by authentic hand-made boats. The early morning sailing trip leaves just opposite our restaurant by the sea. It goes to the schools of dolphins, so that you will be able to take a close look at the dolphin's spectacle. A wonderful sight at approximately one and a half hour. Is there anything in the world that is more exciting than coming home full of stories on Bali and showing your family and friends pictures of leaping dolphins?
We gladly offer all of our guests this authentic boattrip to the dolphins for free.
Just near the coast magnificent coral can be seen. It is possible to arrange transport to that particular coral area, where you can enjoy diving and snorkeling between incredibly beautiful fish.

Ceremonies
While you are staying in Bali, you should ask about the ceremonies and the places to be to attend to the ceremonies. It is not only the celebration itself that is worthwile, the days before the ceremony takes place are a real adventure too. Everyone in the whole village will be busy making ornaments and offerings.
You are expected to be dressed appropriately: sarong, sash, kebaja gown or a blouse with long sleeves.
